At the end of 2008, I reviewed the past few years of data and found that one of the most obvious and beneficial services was probably the most underused and undoubtedly one of the most needed for our customers. It is also an area that my competing colleagues have found to be true with their own clients. It's preventive maintenance and system monitoring. And yet, "one ounce of prevention is worth its weight in gold". I commended a business years ago for being so complete with selecting their preventive services and being on task. They told me they didn't have a choice. They were given a bill before the support firm would even do business with them at all and told in professional terms that's the way it was going to be. Whether they had 0-5 servers, 1-50 PC's, they were billed accordingly and "this is how it was going to be". Yes, they did have a choice. However, the support firm was being upfront and the client knew it was something that was best for them.
Even the best kept computer systems may fail no matter how maintained they are. However, you reduce your chance of failure by keeping your data system in better health and monitoring them. Because of this, we are highly recommending that our clients schedule regular cleaning and tune-up programs. Our company is now remotely monitoring server events, backup processes, etc., as a support service. This is important for disaster recovery! Schedule regular server and software updates. We have desktop support programs too! These are all programs that can be implemented by your approval.
What I found was that my customers wanted me to tell them what was best for them too. Do you want us to come in and tell you this information when you call us in for a service call and everything is down or do you want us to tell you what is best for you now?
